The church at Llandanwg may be the first site of Christianity in the British Isles.

We like to think this is where St Tanwg stumbled ashore in the 5th or 6th century. The church in the dunes is mediaeval, but an 8 foot stone pillar lying on the sanctuary floor is inscribed INGENI and ENNB, and dates from the 5th century.

In 2008 a boulder incused with a cross was discovered, also said to date from the 5th century.

The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall in Bradwell on Sea in Essex, dating from AD 654, is believed to be the oldest church in Britain. It would appear that Llandanwg predates it by up to 200 years.
